Money in the Bank

Some thoughts about the money in the bank matches: why is it that the person that wins becomes number one contender AND gets the contract? Wouldn’t it be so much more interesting to have two storylines happening at the same time, like the champion facing the number one contender, but also knowing that the person with the contract can cash it in at any time? That way the champion can be a part of the money in the bank match and if they win it’s like an insurance policy in case they lose the title.
